Part III: Taking Action

If your progress through this material has been like a leisurely hike along the foothills, consider that you have now reached the base of the mountain. The path of ascent stretches before you, sometimes rocky, sometimes steep. In Part III you will encounter information, exercises, and choices that will demand more of a commitment to making wellness a way of life rather than a hobby or weekend diversion. You will have to decide that you are going to stay on course. When you decide to alter your diet, for instance, results may not be immediately apparent. In fact, you may actually go through a period of feeling worse before you start to feel better, since your body will have to cope with the symptoms of withdrawal from sugar and other addictive substances.

We suggest that you start with the areas that address your most pressing concern—such as nutrition, exercise, relationships, or communication—and that you use the resources suggested to deepen your self understanding. Work on just one area for at least several weeks before moving on to another area, referring back to Part I and Part II, especially to those areas that will support you as your start taking action.

15. Value of Aerobic Exercise
